OK – you should eat kale… Even though it’s gross, it’s good for you – I put mine in my smoothies, so the strawberry and blueberry taste covers it up.. anyways, found this online… three reasons why you shouldn’t eat too much kale! Cheers!
If you’ve been stuffing your face with kale for the past year to get healthy, you might want to dial it back. According to a nutritionist, here are three reasons eating too much kale can actually be BAD for you . . .
1. It’s one of the hardest vegetables to digest. It’s loaded with fiber, which is usually good, because it helps move food through your digestive tract.
But the word “fiber” just means the part of fruits and vegetables that can’t be digested. And if you get too MUCH of it, you’ll start bloating, and it can also cause bad gas. So people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome shouldn’t eat too much kale.
2. It can cause kidney stones. Foods that are high in something called “oxalates” increase your chances of developing kidney stones. And dark, leafy greens like kale and spinach are loaded with them.
3. It can mess with your thyroid. Kale contains high amounts of goitrogen. (pronounced “GOY-tro-jen) And too much of it can cause hypothyroidism . . . meaning an underactive thyroid, which tends to make you gain weight.
Obviously, none of this means you should stop eating kale COMPLETELY. It just shouldn’t be your go-to vegetable with every meal. Also, it’s a lot easier to digest if you cook it first.
