Today in Rock History – July 9

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s July 9th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

We’ve got a HUGE list of birthdays today! Starting off, we have Bon Scott of AC/DC!

Another big birthday today is Jack White!

Other birthdays today include Mitch Mitchell of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Frank Bello of Anthrax, and D. H. Peligro of the Dead Kennedys!

As well as Dan Estrin of Hoobastank, Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, Courtney Love of Hole!

We got the Chili Peppers’ By the Way in 2002!

In 2004, David Bowie cancelled a string of European shows due to undergoing an emergency heart surgery. The cancellation was originally attributed to a shoulder injury.

We lost Würzel of Motorhead in 2011 from heart complications.

In 1995, Jerry Garcia played his final concert with the Dead when they played Solider Field in Chicago. Garcia would die exactly one month later.

And finally in 2015, AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd was sentenced to eight months house arrest for drug possession and making threats to kill an ex-employee due to the failure of his solo album Head Job. He would serve his house arrest at his beachfront home in Tauranga, New Zealand. After hearing just one song from the album, maybe Phil could’ve used the eight months to make better music!
