In 1966, Cream performed for the first time together at the Twisted Wheel club in Manchester, England.
In 1987, Ben & Jerry’s, alongside Grateful Dead member Jerry Garcia, debuts their new flavor Cherry Garcia!
In 1980, David Bowie began his run as the titular character for “The Elephant Man” play at the Auditorium Theater in Denver.
In 2014, authorities in the UK announced a reversal on the ban of steel-string guitars in prison cells after a campaign from a variety of guitarists including David Gilmour.
A 2007 KISS show had to be called off mid-performance when singer and guitarist Paul Stanley’s heart jumped spontaneously to 190 beats per minute. Paramedics stopped and restarted Stanley’s heart to return its rhythm back to normal.
In 1990, Elton John entered a Chicago rehab facility to help with his Bulimia and drug/alcohol addictions after not being able to find on in Los Angeles. He would stay in the facility for six weeks, then took a year off from touring and recording.
In 1973, while staying at the New York Hilton hotel, members of Led Zeppelin reported that over $200,000 in cash was stolen from a safe deposit box in their room. The theft was discovered by tour manager Richard Cole, but the thief was never caught.
And finally, Glenn Frey played his final show with the Eagles on this day in 2015. The show was the final date on the group’s History of the Eagles tour. Frey would die just six months later.
