Today in Rock History – June 30

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s June 30th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Beginning the day with releases, and boy do we have a strong list today! Three heavy hitters today include School’s Out from Alice Cooper in 1972,

Love Gun from KISS in 1977,

and The Game from Queen in 1980!

Other releases include Wilco (The Album) from Wilco in 2009, Back in the High Life by Steve Winwood in 1986, and both Live at the Roxy from Social Distortion and System of a Down’s self-titled debut in 1998!

We also got the release of the soundtrack album for the Cameron Crowe film Singles in 1992, which introduced the world to many groups from the Seattle grunge scene and helped launch the American grunge movement.

Birthdays today include Andy Scott of Sweet and Phil Anselmo of Pantera!

In 2000, eight festival goers were trampled to death during Pearl Jam’s performance at Copenhagen’s Roskilde festival. Police deemed the incident an accident as the fans had slipped and fallen in the mud near the front of the stage resulting in their deaths. Pearl Jam honored the fans with their song Love Boat Captain.

In 2012, Queen began their first tour with American Idol alum Adam Lambert on vocals, becoming Queen + Adam Lambert.

And finally in 1977, Marvel Comics published their KISS comic book, inked in the band’s blood!
