Today in Rock History – June 28

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s June 28th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day in 1997, as elderly couple Lela and Raymond Howard left their home to attend a music festival just 10 miles away in Temple, Texas, but they would never return. After reading about the missing couple in a newspaper (remember those?), Fastball singer Tony Scalzo wrote The Way. Just days after finishing the song, the Howards were found dead 200 miles away from the festival.

Birthdays today feature Mike Derks of GWAR and Mark Stoermer of The Killers!

We lost GG Allin from a heroin overdose in 1993 following one of his concerts that was cut short.

Releases today include Fly on the Wall by AC/DC in 1985, Let’s Rock from The Black Keys in 2019 and Pink Floyd’s A Saucerful of Secrets in 1968

We also got the film Yesterday in 2019, telling the story of a man who is the only person in the world who remembers The Beatles after an accident. Its good, but the book is better.

The Eagles got their first No. 1 record in the US in 1975 with their fourth album One of These Nights

And finally in 2010, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin was sued by Jake Holmes for copyright infringement, claiming that Page plagiarized his 1967 song Dazed and Confused when Zeppelin released a very similar song with the same title on their 1969 debut album. The case would eventually settle, with Holmes earning a writing credit for the Zeppelin tune. Now let’s see if there is really a difference, shall we?
