Today in Rock History – May 10

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s May 10th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off strong for releases as we got not one, but TWO Weezer albums: Make Believe in 2005 and their self-titled debut aka the Blue Album in 1994.

What? Expecting the funny guitar bit? Sigh. Fine.

Moving on, we also got the Steve Miller Band’s Book of Dreams in 1977, Modern Life Is Rubbish by Blur in 1993, Too Much Too Soon from the New York Dolls in 1974 and Stay Hungry from Twisted Sister in 1984.

Moving onto birthdays now, we have the late Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols

Its also Danny Carey of Tool and Richard Patrick of Filter’s birthdays today

Oh yeah, it’s also that pretentious Irishman from U2’s birthday today. What was his name again? Bobo? Sure, we’ll go with that.

We lost artist Frank Frazetta in 2010. Mainly known for his fantasy and sci-fi paintings, Frazetta not only worked in comics and film, he also did album art. Albums he worked on ranged in a variety of genres from country to rock, including Wolfmother’s debut album in 2006, Nazareth’s Expect No Mercy in 1977, and the first three Molly Hatchet albums: Molly Hatchet (1978), Flirtin’ with Disaster (1979), and Beatin’ the Odds (1980).

In 1986, Tommy Lee gets married to actress Heather Locklear. That lasted about seven years.

A sour day for Daughtry fans as it was on this day in 2006 that Chris Daughtry was voted off Season 5 of American Idol.

In 1974, The Who sell out Madison Square Garden in a record eight hours. In the day and age before Ticketmaster and online sellers, this is a major feat.

And finally, ALSO in 1974, Led Zeppelin officially launched their own record label. Called Swan Song, the label not only releases solo efforts from Zeppelin members Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, the label also released album from groups like Pretty Things and Bad Company.
