Today in Rock History – April 29

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s April 29th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Bit of a slow one today, but starting off in 1980, it was on this day that Black Sabbath began their first tour without Ozzy Osbourne as their vocalist. Ozzy’s replacement was the legendary Ronnie James Dio.

Moving onto releases today, we have Freddie Mercury’s one and only solo album Mr. Bad Guy, Alice Cooper’s Lace and Whiskey and Van Halen’s Fair Warning.

It’s Mike Hogan of The Cranberries’ birthday today

We lost guitarist and producer Mick Ronson in 1993 from liver cancer. Ronson not only toured with David Bowie in the early 70’s but he also helped co-produce albums for singers and groups like Elton John, John Mellencamp and Lou Reed.

Steven Tyler tore his ACL at an Aerosmith concert held in Anchorage, Alaska in 1998. The injury delayed the band’s “Nine Lives” tour and also affected the band’s filming for their music video for I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing.

And finally in 1999, Tommy Lee quits Motley Crue to focus on his new band Methods of Mayhem, as well as Pamela Anderson and his family.
