Today in Rock History – March 26

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s March 26th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off strong for birthdays today as it’s the Demon of Screamin’, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith’s birthday today!

It’s also James Iha of The Smashing Pumpkins birthday today.

Moving onto releases we got Van Halen’s Woman and Children First in 1980, Gorillaz’s self-titled debut in 2001, Jailbreak from Thin Lizzy in 1976, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Southern Accents in 1985.

We lost Randy Castillo of the Ozzy Osbourne band in 2002. Castillo worked with Ozzy during the 80s and 90s and also worked with Lita Ford and Motley Crue

In 1971, The Rolling Stones’ lip and tongue logo makes its first appearance when the logo was used on VIP passes for the Stones’ show at the Marquee Club in London.

And finally, in 2006 readers of Total Guitar magazine voted that the guitar solo from Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven as the greatest guitar solo of all time, beating out other tracks from Van Halen, Queen, and Hendrix. Now only if they allowed it to be played in guitar shops across the world.
