Today in Rock History – March 25

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s March 25th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

We lost Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters on this day in 2022. If we were gonna put anything here, this one seems to be perfect. A fitting tribute that’s for sure.

Moving on there are some big releases today, starting with Linkin Park’s Meteroa from 2003

We also got Hand it Over from Dinosaur Jr in 1997, the live album Band of Gypsys from Jimi Hendrix in 1970, and Machine Head by Deep Purple in 1972

What? Thought you’d get Smoke on the Water? Well guess again!

Two birthdays today and it includes the current drummer of Guns N’ Roses, Frank Ferrer and Buzz Osborne of the Melvins.

Speaking of GNR, on this day in 1986, the band signs with Geffen Records. The company, trying to keep the band alive and out of jail, while also getting them to record an album was not an easy feat. But the struggle pays off when Appetite For Destruction sells over 18M copies. Just in America by the way.

In 2005, the Buckinghamshire mansion of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne caught fire while the couple slept. Luckily, the couple was awoken by their fire alarms and escaped safely.

In 2008, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora was arrested in California under suspicion of drunk driving. He was ordered to appear on one count of DUI.

Another arrest of an ’80’s hair metal band member happened in 1990, when Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee was arrested for indecent exposure during a show in Australia. The cause? Mooning the audience.

And finally, in 2016, The Rolling Stones perform a free concert in Cuba at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana sports complex in front of an estimated 1.2 million people. Let me say that again. 1.2 MILLION PEOPLE!
