Today in Rock History – March 16

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s March 16th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting it off with birthdays we have Steve Marker of Garbage and Wolfgang Van Halen of Mammoth WVH. He was also apart of a band with his dad. You can probably guess who that is.

In 1992, Metallica was charged $38,000 after the fans went crazy at one of their shows in Orlando. Not only did the fans trash the place, but some dangled an usher from a balcony by his ankles.

In 2011, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth collapses backstage at a show in Russia due to extreme pain from kidney stones. Mustaine went on to perform six songs for the Russian crowd before leaving for the hospital 30 minutes later.

And finally in 2010, a rare Led Zeppelin concert recording of their 1971 show at St Matthew’s Baths Hall in Ipswich was uncovered at a trunk sale in the UK. The lucky fan, Vic Kemp said, “I was going through a stand of CDs at the car boot at Portman Road and the guy who was selling them said, ‘You might be interested in this. It must have been recorded by someone standing at the front with a microphone. You can hear Robert Plant talking to the audience quite clearly.'”
