Today in Rock History – March 6

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s March 6th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Only one way to start the day. It’s David Gilmour’s birthday! To celebrate, here’s Pink Floyd’s final show together at Live 8. Come oooonn. You know you wanna watch it.

It’s also Chris Tomson of Vampire Weekend’s birthday!

Moving onto releases, we have Just Push Play from Aerosmith in 2001!

Another release for today was in 1970. The album called Lie: The Love & Terror Cult, featuring songs like Look at Your Game, Girl and Cease to Exist, it would be the only album released by cult leader and convicted murderer, Charles Manson.

In 2009, thousands of Phish fans visit Hampton, Virginia to see the band perform for the first time together since 2004

In 1998, Oasis’s Liam Gallagher headbutts a 19-year-old fan and breaks the fan’s nose. Gallagher is charged with assault, but the charges were later dropped when the fan wanted to pursue civil charges.

And finally in 2021, we lost Lou Ottens at 94-years-old. Who is Lou Ottens? Well he invented one of music’s most important inventions. It helped you bring your favorite songs on the road with you for those long road trips, create a playlist to win back your crazy ex, or helped many of rock’s greats (and not so greats) get their music heard. All in one small package: the cassette tape.
