Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s July 25th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

We’ve got a big day for Releases! Starting off if AC/DC’s 1980 comeback album: Back in Black
Other releases include Yes’ self-titled debut in 1969, Trash from Alice Cooper in 1989 and Metallica’s debut album Kill ‘Em All in 1983!
We also got Tom Petty’s Highway Companion in 1994, James Gang Rides Again from the James Gang in 1970 and the Beastie Boys’ Paul’s Boutique in 1989!
Sticking with album talk, in 2014, “Weird Al” Yankovic final hit No. 1 on the US albums chart with his album Mandatory Fun, becoming the first comedy act to do so in over 50 years.
Going into Birthdays now, we have Jose Areas of Santana, Jim McCarty of The Yardbirds and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth!
Brian Jones plays his final show with The Rolling Stones in 1966.
In 2024, Billy Joel played his 150th and final show of his 10 year residency at Madison Square Garden.
And finally in 1999, Woodstock ’99 ends it four day, violence fueled run in Rome, New York. Instead of the event being know for “Peace, Love & Music” like the original Woodstock, the festival was filled with rioting, poor sanitation, arson, sexual assault and looting. The final day featured performances by Creed, Willie Nelson, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
