Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 10th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day off with releases, we got Green Day’s Insomniac in 1995!
We also got Hot Rats from Frank Zappa and In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson, both in 1969.
As well as U2’s Rattle and Hum in 1988 and Radiohead’s In Rainbows in 2007.
In 1980, the funeral for Zeppelin drummer John Bonham took place in Worcestershire, England. In attendance included Bonham’s bandmates as well as Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood of ELO and Denny Laine of the Moody Blues.
During a 1978 Aerosmith show in Philadelphia, Joe Perry and Steven Tyler were injured after a member of the audience threw a M-80 firecracker on stage. Perry’s hand and Tyler’s eye took most of the damage. The group would perform behind a safety fence for the remainder of the tour.
With birthdays, we have David Lee Roth of Van Halen!
As well as Dean Roland of Collective Soul and Brandon Barnes of Rise Against!
And finally, during the height of the anthrax mailing attacks of 2001, Anthrax released a statement on this day stating that they would not be changing their name. The statement read, “In light of current events, we are changing the name of the band to something more friendly, ‘Basket Full Of Puppies’. Actually, just the fact that we are making jokes about our name sucks.” The group even made a joke that if a member would catch Anthrax someone should, “call Alanis Morrisette. That would be ironic.” The mailing attacks eventually stopped a few months later and Anthrax continued to melt faces. Figuratively, of course.
