The Rolling Stones start us off today with highs and lows as we saw the release of Tattoo You in 1981,
But we lost their drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.
We also lost Bernie Marsden of Whitesnake on this day in 2023.
Rock N Roll High School premiered in theaters in 1979. Featuring now-punk legends the Ramones, the film has become a cult favorite since its original release. I mean, it’s cheesy as hell by today’s standards, still a fun time!

In 1975, Queen began recording what would be considered the band’s magnum opus: Bohemian Rhapsody. The song took over three weeks to record at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales. Singer Freddie Mercury directed the rest of his bandmates throughout the sessions. This included 10 to 12 hours a day recording he, Brian May and Roger Taylor’s vocal parts with over 180 different overdubs.
In 1981, Mark Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for the murder of John Lennon. Chapman is imprisoned at Green Haven Correctional in New York and has been denied parole 14 times.
And finally in 2021, Spencer Elden, the man who appeared as the baby on the cover of Nirvana’s Nevermind album cover 30 years prior, attempted to sue the band and other associated with the photo shoot. He claimed the album cover caused him “extreme and permanent emotional distress.”
