King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are preparing to release Alien Metal, a new studio album that moves the Australian band deeper into electronic music.
The project was announced with the single Level 5, giving fans a first look at the album’s heavier dance-focused direction. The release marks another sharp turn for a group known for moving across psychedelic rock, metal, jazz, folk, and synth-driven sounds without staying in one lane for long.
For this album, the band built much of the music around a large modular synthesizer setup known as Nathan. All six members worked with the system, making the recording process more collaborative and less centered on traditional rock instrumentation.
Alien Metal is expected later this summer through the band’s own P(Doom) label. It follows a quiet stretch between full-length releases and arrives as King Gizzard continues to expand their live format.
The band also has special rave-style shows planned around its New York residency, tying the new material directly to a more electronic stage setup.
