We all have our favorite bands. But have you ever sat down and watched a movie or TV show and thought to yourself “This band is amazing! It’s just a shame they aren’t real!” Just me? Well when music invades the space of other mediums, there is something special that can happen. These are our favorite fictional bands & musicians!
10. Wyld Stallyons (Bill & Ted series)
Ok, these two loveable idiots aren’t very good, but they (as well as their daughter’s band Preston/Logan) saved the world from disaster multiple times. Could we name of their songs? Hell no! Do we love them anyways? Hell yeah!
9. Stillwater (Almost Famous)
With Stillwater, you get the classic rock vibes of the ‘70s but with a late 90’s viewpoint. Yes, the band doesn’t really show their musicality on screen that much on film, but their likeability comes from the journey they have in the background of Almost Famous’s main narrative.
Moving onto our next entr…
Thanks, Kim.
8. Sex Bob-Omb (Scott Pilgrim vs The World)
Sex Bob-Omb are a vital role in the Scott Pilgrim comics, movie, video games and TV show as they provide the indie garage rock vibe that is needed for a story like this. They had some stiff competition from Crash and the Boys and Clash at Demonhead, but they just squeezed onto this prestigious list
7. The Wonders (That Thing You Do!)
A band known for just one hit and one hit only, a song so good that it is played MUTLIPLE times throughout the film, and it gets catchier every single time you hear it! This one-hit wonder took the summer of 1964 by storm before it all came crashing down later that year. It’s just a shame that they didn’t take off like Captain Geech & the Shrimp Shack Shooters
6. The Hex Girls (Scooby-Doo)
One of many reasons why millennials and elder Gen-Z’ers are obsessed with hot goth chicks. Need I say more?
5. Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (The Muppets)
For the sake of our argument, Muppets are fictional beings. Yes, you can touch a Muppet and see a Muppet in a museum or in line at a roller coaster at Disney World. But they aren’t really “real”, if that makes sense. Anyways, The Electric Mayhem have been a mainstay of the Muppets gang since the inception of The Muppets Show and their lively and rocking covers prove they are one of the top fictional bands on this list!
4. Dewey Cox (Walk Hard)
How can you talk about fictional musicians and NOT talk about Dewey Cox. This man is the reason why this list includes the word Musicians in the title. With classic songs like Walk Hard and Let’s Duet, Cox’s parody of the musician biopic brought many fans to the point where a tour has been rumored!
3. Dethklok (Metalocalypse)
Yes you can see Dethklok live, but the band started out as a love letter to metal and the absurdity of it all. With band members names like Nathan Explosion, William Murderface, and…. Pickles, Dethklok have created something only a few fictional bands can create: a loyal following that pushed them into the real world.
2. Spinal Tap (This Is Spinal Tap)
Do I really need to say anything about Spinal Tap? I mean, it’s Spinal Tap. One of the original fictional bands that continues to inspire and make fun of multiple rock bands to this day. But they couldn’t quite turn it up to 11 enough to take the top spot.
1. Gorillaz
Time to start a fight! Yes, Gorillaz are a touring band that you can see live (much like Dethklok), but the characters of Murdoc, 2-D, Russel, and Noodles only exist on a screen. So, yes, Gorillaz is a fictional band and takes the top spot on our list! Their music and looks are iconic and instantly recognizable among people born in the 90’s and 2000’s.
