Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s July 17th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day with Releases and it’s a strong start as we got Escape from Journey in 1981! Play the song!
Other releases include Full Circle from The Doors in 1972, The Kingdom by Bush in 2020, and 4 from Foreigner in 1981!
The hits keep coming with Birthdays as we have a metal god in Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath!
Other birthdays include Ron Asheton of The Stooges and Lou Barlow of Dinosaur Jr!
We lost Robbie Steinhart of Kansas in 2021 from complications of acute pancreatitis
In 2011, Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance at a tribute to his E Street Band tenor sax player Clarence Clemons, who passed away just a month earlier, at Wonder Bar in New Jersey. The Wonder Bar is a special place for both Springsteen and Clemons as it was where the two first met in 1971.
In 1993, Guns N Roses completed their two-and-a-half year long Use Your Illusion tour in Buenos Aires. This show would be the last time that Slash and Axl Rose would share a stage until the 2016 reunion.
In 1972, a bomb exploded underneath The Rolling Stones’ equipment van in Montreal. The bombing was believed to be the work of French separatists. Riots would break out soon after, as some 3,000 fans bought fake tickets to the show.
And finally in 1991, the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited for a new tour starting in Baton Rogue, just fourteen years after the deadly plane crash of their Baton Rouge-bound plane in 1977 that claimed three band members. Called Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, the band sold shirts for the event that read “Baton Rouge! After 14 years! We’re finally here!”
