Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s February 28th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting off with releases in 1975 when we got Welcome to My Nightmare by Alice Cooper. Cue the Wayne’s World bit!
We also got Standing on the Shoulders of Giants by Oasis and Stiff Upper Lip from AC/DC both from 2000, War from U2 in 1983, and Weird Al’s “Weird Al” Yankovic in 3-D in 1984.
Birthdays today feature Cindy Wilson of The B-52’s and Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones.
One other birthday today belongs to album art graphic designer, Storm Thorgerson. Known for helping create some of the most iconic album artwork of all time, Thorgerson worked with groups like Led Zeppelin, The Cranberries, and Pink Floyd.
In 1999, Marilyn Manson and Hole begin their joint Beautiful Monsters tour in Spokane, Washington. The tour would be canceled after nine dates when Hole pulled out (heheheh) and Manson injured his ankle on stage.
We lost David Johansen of the New York Dolls from cancer on this day in 2025 at the age of 75
In 1970, Led Zeppelin play a gig in Copenhagen under the name “The Nobs” after Eva von Zeppelin, a relative of the late airship designer Ferdinand von Zeppelin, threatened to sue the band.
In 2012, Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy, wrote about a blog post titled We Liked You Better Fat: Confessions of a Pariah and speaks about his failed solo album and audience members taunts. FOB bass player Pete Wentz reached out to Stump. After the conversation, they got the band back together again. Just a year later, they released their comeback album Save Rock and Roll, featuring their next big hit:
And finally in 1995, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and his wife Adrienne welcome their first son, Joseph “Joey” Armstrong. Joey was named after Ramones singer Joey Ramone.
