Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s November 24th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
It was on this day in 1991 that we lost Freddie Mercury from AIDS-related pneumonia at the age of 45, just one day after coming out publicly about his illness.
On the exact same day in 1991, we lost The Fox, Eric Carr of KISS from heart cancer at the age of 41.
We also lost Bob Bryar of My Chemical Romance in 2024. The autopsy said the cause of death was undetermined but the likely cause was a drug overdose. He was last seen alive on November 4th
Moving onto today’s releases, we got Eric Clapton’s August in 1986 and Garage Inc. from Metallica in 1998!
In 1972, the music TV series In Concert debuted on ABC as a direct competitor to NBC’s Midnight Special. Guests for the first episode included The Allman Brothers Band, Poco, and Alice Cooper.
Moving on to birthdays we have Tony Rombola of Godsmack!
Other birthdays include Chad Taylor of LIVE, John Squire of the Stone Roses, Pete Best of The Beatles, Chris Hayes of Huey Lewis & The News, Bob Burns of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Clem Burke of Blondie!
In 1997, Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols appeared on an episode of Judge Judy as the defendant in a wrongful termination lawsuit brought on by his former drummer. Rotten won the case.
And finally in 1974, during his infamous “Lost Weekend,” John Lennon met with Elton John to rehearse for Elton’s upcoming Madison Square Garden show where Lennon would make a surprise appearance. There is only one known video recording of the event, and this is it!
