Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s August 18th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
We spoke about it yesterday, but in 1969, Jimi Hendrix closed Day 3 (technically Day 4) of the very first Woodstock festival with an early morning performance. Performing hits like Voodoo Child and Purple Haze, his set also included one of the greatest renditions of The Star-Spangled Banner ever!
In 1962, Ringo Starr officially joined The Beatles after just a two-hour rehearsal with the rest of the group. The Fab Four as the world knew them was officially complete
Getting away from the hippies now, we have releases! It’s a great day for them too! We got Slippery When Wet from Bon Jovi in 1986
And in 1998 we got both Devil Without a Cause from Kid Rock and Korn’s Follow the Leader
Moving onto birthdays now, we have Blas Elias of Slaughter, Everlast, Dirk Lance of Incubus, and Dennis Elliott of Foreigner!
We also had the birth of Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, in 1992.
And finally in 1977, The Police, now a trio, made their live debut at Rebecca’s in Birmingham, England. A year later, they would take the world by storm.
This has been Today in Rock History! Keep on Rocking, keep on Rolling! Check back tomorrow for your next rock history lesson!
