Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s February 11th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Kind of a slow day but starting with releases we have Confusion is Sex from Sonic Youth in 1983 and Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell from Social Distortion in 1992.
It’s H.R. of Bad Brains, Sheryl Crow, #5 Craig “133” Jones (formerly) of Slipknot, and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park’s birthday today.
In 1998, Axl Rose was arrested at an airport in Phoenix and charged with threatening a security worker. He would later plead guilty for disturbing the peace.
Then in 2014, Queen made history in the U.K. charts by becoming the first act to sell six million copies of an album. That record being their first Greatest Hits compilation. By including hits like We Will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody, The Official Charts Company said one in three families in Britain owned a copy of the 1981 compilation.
It’s time to head bang!
In 1980, an episode of WKRP in Cincinnati ran an episode that was devoted to the December 3rd, 1979 tragedy when 11 fans were killed before a Who concert at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati. You can watch the full episode down below
And finally, in 1992, Vince Neil was fired from Motley Crue after saying he lost his passion for music and began to race cars. In reality, his bandmates fired him for his excessive drinking and “holding us back.”
