Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s February 6th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting off with birthdays, we have the late Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip (If you haven’t listened to the Hip, educate yourself) and Lafayette, IN’s very own Axl Rose of GNR.
And just because I can, it’s also Bob Marley’s birthday today.
One release today, and that would be Infinity on High from Fall Out Boy in 2007
In 1990, Billy Idol crashed his Harley into a car after failing to stop at a stop sign. He suffered serious injuries but is still rocking today!
In 2018, Ozzy Osbourne announced his No More Tours 2 tour, and was set to run through 2020. The tour, however, never came to fruition.
In 2013, Warner Music purchased Parlophone Records from Universal Music for $765 million. Everything under the Parlophone umbrella would be included in the sale but works produced by The Beatles were exempt.
We lost Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys in 1998 and Gary Moore of Thin Lizzy in 2011.
Don Felder was fired from the Eagles in 2001
The Talking Heads played their final gig on this day in 1984 when they performed a rough set at the Sweetwaters South Festival in Christchurch, New Zealand. The performance was cut short after just 3 songs and the group wouldn’t perform together again until the 2002 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
And finally in 2014, NME (New Musical Express) named Smells Like Teen Spirit as the greatest song of all time!
You didn’t even notice the surprise I hid in the birthdays section, did ya? Go back and check it again and come back when you find it. I’ll wait….

Did you find it? Yeah, it’s his birthday today, too.
This has been Today in Rock History! Check back tomorrow for your next rock history lesson!
