Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s November 17th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day with releases, John Lennon gave us Double Fantasy on this day in 1980. A few weeks later, he would be shot and killed outside his home in New York.
Other releases include From the Inside from Alice Cooper in 1978, Let it Be… Naked by The Beatles in 2003, Stealers Wheel’s self-titled debut in 1972 and Americana from The Offspring in 1998!
In 1987, Metallica released their first home video, Cliff ‘Em All. The video is comprised of both pro and fan filmed performances of bass player Cliff Burton before his untimely death in a tour bus accident.
With birthdays, we have Jeff Buckley!
Other birthdays include East Bay Ray of the Dead Kennedys, Gene Clark of The Byrds, Richard Fortus of Guns N Roses, and Martin Barre of Jethro Tull!
And finally in 1988, while being called “Hard-Rock Heroes”, Guns N Roses stole the cover of Rolling Stone magazine from Aerosmith, who were the headliners of the tour that the bands were currently on. Aerosmith thought they would get the cover, but GNR became much more popular.
This has been Today in Rock History! Keep on Rocking, keep on Rolling! Check back tomorrow for your next rock history lesson!
