In 2001, The Concert For New York City took place in Madison Square Garden to help raise money for victims of the 9/11 attacks and their families. On the bill that night included Paul McCartney, Elton John, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, The Who, and NYC’s own Billy Joel.
We lost Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon in 1995 of a drug overdose.
We also lost Paul Di’Anno of Iron Maiden in 2024 and Sandy West of The Runaways in 2006.
In 1976, The Who finished their North American tour in Toronto, and it would mark the band’s final show with drummer Keith Moon before his death two years later.
In a complete tonal shift, it’s John Connolly of Sevendust and Brent Mydland of the Grateful Dead’s birthdays!
Moving onto releases, we got Meat Loaf’s breakout debut record Bat Out of Hell in 1977!

And finally in 1995 (and what a way to end today), after mooning the audience at a Green Day gig in Milwaukee, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is arrested and fined $141.
