Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s December 12th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day in 1970, The Doors played what would be their final live performance with Jim Morrison, taking place at The Warehouse in New Orleans. We lost Ian Stewart of The Rolling Stones in 1985 from a heart attack. Stewart was originally a co-founder of the band but was dismissed in 1963 by Stones’ manager Andrew Oldham, but remained at the band’s piano player and played on all Stones albums from 1964 to 1983. Stewart also appeared on Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti for the song Boogie With Stu
Sticking with the Stones now, as in 2003 frontman Mick Jagger was knighted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
We got The Clash’s Sandinista! in 1977
Moving onto birthdays now, we have Dickey Betts of The Allman Brothers Band!
Other birthdays include Bruce Kulick of KISS, Dan Hawkins of The Darkness, and Rob Tyner of MC5!
In 1966, Pink Floyd played their very first show, for the Oxham Benefit at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
And finally in 2012, the 12-12-12 benefit concert took place at Madison Square Garden to help raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. On the bill that night included the Who, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Roger Waters, and Paul McCartney who performed with the surviving members of Nirvana.
