Cancer Patient Plays Guitar During Brain Surgery

Some guitar players just can’t put their axe down – not even while having brain surgery.

Meet Christian Nolen, a guitarist from Florida who recently underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Nolen was awake for part of the surgery, and actually played guitar while the surgeons poked around his brain.

Doctors say Nolen’s guitar playing helped them keep track of his manual dexterity during surgery, allowing them to be “as aggressive as possible” in removing the tumor.

Nolen says he was mostly playing riffs by Deftones while under the knife.  He’s now recovering – and still playing guitar.

Have you ever been awake during surgery? Thanks, Killabrew
