R.I.P. HQ Trivia . . . Moviefone . . . And The Company That Sold Rompers For Men

Not gonna lie, I still played HQ. I also have 4.50 cents in my account. I will miss Sarah Pribis and Money Flippin Matt Richards. Part of me would like to marry Sharon Caprenter.

Bad news if you like trying to win money by playing trivia on your phone . . . dressing like an adult baby . . . or talking to Kramer to find out movie times.  The world lost three notable businesses in the past few days . . .

1.  HQ Trivia.  It was the first “live video trivia” app and it went MAJORLY viral when it launched in 2017 . . . and it spawned a ton of imitators.  But it fell almost as quickly . . . and suddenly shut down on Friday when an acquisition fell through.

With HQ we showed the world the future of TV. We didn’t get to where we hoped but we did stretch the world’s imagination for what’s possible on our smartphones. Thanks to everyone who helped build this and thanks for playing.

2.  RompHim.  In May of 2017, a new company called RompHim went viral . . . by selling ROMPERS for men.  But it wasn’t enough to sustain SUCH a niche business . . . and now, they’re done.

3.  Moviefone.  It’s hard to imagine there’d be a need for Moviefone in this modern world . . . and it turns out, there isn’t.  Its parent company has filed for bankruptcy and it’s down to just ONE employee.

Back in 1999, AOL acquired Moviefone for $388 million.  The company is now worth less than $10 million.
