Whether you’re working it, shopping in it, or just driving and happen to run into it…Black Friday is miserable. Despite all this many of you, like it or not, will be dragged out into the chaos under the guise of “great deals” and “doorbusters”. In my opinion you don’t need a good excuse to not be out on Black Friday, but in case your family says otherwise here’s five great reasons…
1. Black Friday Is The Most Dangerous And Fatal Shopping Day Of The Year
Since 2006, there have been 7 deaths and 98 injuries to shoppers nationwide on Black Friday. This includes a Walmart worker who was trampled to death in a stampede of customers, car fatalities in shopping districts, and straight out brawls over hot toys. Here’s another fun fact, you are 60% more likely to get in a car accident out driving on Black Friday. Deals really don’t add up when your insurance deductible climbs with it.
2. Black Friday Has A Lot Of Deals…But Not From The Brands You Want
Go ahead and check the catalog right now. The cheapest electronic you can find is often from a brand NOT known for it’s quality. Sure the better stuff may be on sale as well, but not priced any better than it would other random weeks of the year. The truth is shopping outlets use these mega deals to draw you in under the guise of deals only for you to opt for something better when you get there. You probably have already done this at some point in your time shopping…it’s okay it happens to the best of us.
3. “Limited Quanity” Is Legally Defined As 3 Or 4 Minumum
Say you do find a really good deal on some top quality brand. Legally stores that offer these door busters are only required to sell 3 to 4 minimum per store, and if you think they’re going above that number and eating the loss…you’re crazy. Indianapolis residents, I shouldn’t have to break down your odds of being that one of four in a city of nearly a million. You will have to be better and more dedicated than the rest to get this deal…and even then you’ll still probably fail.
4. Black Friday Deals Are Always Best On Things You Don’t Need
Wow you can save $25 dollars on your next game after buying the hottest game of the year? Sounds awesome, except you came just to buy the game. So now you are faced with a task that retailers win either way. You wither put $25 towards getting another game you didn’t intend on getting, or you try to “beat the system” and grab a game below the mark. As most kids will tell you when it comes to new game systems…if the games below $40…it’s not worth playing or they already have it.
Things like this aren’t just exclusive to buy one get ones however, you’ll see it on a lot of kitchen appliances. How can you pass up a bread maker for that price?! Well…you got along this far in life purchasing your bread like a normal person, chances are you can live without it.
5. Most The Time You Save More Money Going BEFORE Thanksgiving
Yup. It’s true. A majority of retailers begin their bulk of Black Friday deals weeks before the day actually happens. If you start your Christmas shopping now you guaranteed are going to save more money. Most people either don’t do this because they are hardcore procrastinators, or they are waiting on their Christmas bonus to actually shop. There’s ways around this of course if you do some planning. So play it smart, and if you’re lucky you might be able to skip out on the chaos this year.
