Last nights Empire continued to climb past the high expectations fans have had! We saw Ludacris as a prison guard, and Kelly Rowland in a role that confused more than a few people. So how much more of last nights stars will we be seeing in the coming episodes? Variety sat down with show runner Ilene Chaiken and she gave some answers. Unfortunately we won’t be seeing anymore of Luda, but Kelly Rowland has a big part in this season…
Ludacris is a single episode. Kelly Rowland plays a very important role throughout the season.
Chaiken also said that we will see Becky G as well in coming episodes…but to reveal exactly how many would be “spoilerish”. Going back to Rowland, supposedly her flashbacks as Lucious Lyon’s mother will have “huge” implications on how the rest of the season will play out…
The idea that she’s Lucious’ mother seems to us really deep. You learn a lot of things, and we reveal them slowly — it’s a very slow burn over the course of the season. In this episode, you just get a little hint of what’s to come. You just get a sense that there’s something just not quite right here. Who is Lucious Lyon? How did he become the person he is? This is the story we’re telling with Kelly Rowland in the flashbacks. And the reveals will ultimately be very consequential.
We already know that Andre’s mental issues are hereditary, and a lot of fans have speculated that Andre may take after old grandma Rowland. I’m excited by this news! I’m sure it will give us some true insight into who the man who became Lucious Lyon really was, and what turned him into the man he is!
